We have all seen the photos on Instagram and Pinterest. The perfectly filtered photos of beautiful people are making a living working on their laptops in a converted camper van. It looks like a dream right?! Whats what I thought anyway, so I thought it would give it a go.

Building a video editor is hard. We have hit many roadblocks along the way and had to rewrite our codebase entirely multiple times until we found the solution that would eventually work. So we are sharing everything we have learnt building an online video editor.

A lot happened in 2019, but most notably it was the year we learn how to turn failure into success, and trust me there was a lot of failure!

How we grew from 0 to 50,000 users in a few months with no marking budget and no growth experience.

We got rejected from YC S19! Bummer right. Our product VEED - an online video editor had been doing really well recently. We had a 60% MoM Growth Rate, 35K MAU and a great team!

Since then, we have gotten much better at talking to our users. We now spend about 15+ hours a week talking to our users. Doing this gives us an amazing understanding of how they are editing videos and most importantly a good idea on how to build a great product for them.

We have been working on an online video editing platform called VEED. We started VEED because we were frustrated with video editing software. It is had to use, required an expensive laptop to run and takes ages complete simple tasks.

When building our first product VEED the online video editor, my cofounder and myself were really concerned about how long it would take to build and when would we get my first paying customer, so i asked around.

Launching this blog has been long overdue, but like any other task in a startup, it takes much longer than you might have originally thought.
